About Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame is a museum run by the Indian Army on the Leh to Srinagar road, a short drive from Leh. It is built in memory of soldiers who lost their lives defending Ladakh, and is one of the most visited places in town.
The galleries cover the wars fought in the region, including the Kargil war of 1999, with photographs, weapons, maps and the stories of soldiers who received gallantry awards. A section on Siachen shows the clothing and equipment used by soldiers on the glacier. Other rooms cover Ladakh's history, culture and wildlife.
Outside is a war memorial and some military equipment on display. The museum is a moving visit for families, and children often find it interesting. In the evening there is usually a light and sound show. It fits easily with a Sham Valley trip, or on a rest day in Leh. Allow time to read the citations, which tell the stories of individual soldiers.
