About Kashmir
Kashmir is a valley ringed by the Himalaya and the Pir Panjal range, with Srinagar at its centre. Most trips start on Dal Lake, with a night on a carved wooden houseboat and a shikara ride past floating gardens and markets.
From Srinagar, three hill resorts make easy bases or day trips: Gulmarg for the gondola and winter snow, Pahalgam for the Lidder river and the Betaab and Aru valleys, and Sonamarg for the Thajiwas glacier. Spring brings tulips and almond blossom, summer is green and mild, and winter turns Gulmarg into one of India's best ski slopes.
