A long, straight road across the Rann with salt flats on both sides
The Road to Heaven is the name visitors gave to a stretch of road that crosses the Great Rann towards Khadir Bet, the island where Dholavira stands. For a long distance the road runs straight and flat, with nothing on either side but salt, mud and sky.
What you see depends on the season. After the monsoon there is often shallow water on both sides, and the road looks like it is running over a lake. By winter the land dries into white salt flats. Early morning and sunset are the best times for photos, when the light is soft and the colours change.
It is not a place to spend a whole day. Most people drive it on the way to or from Dholavira and stop for a while at safe spots along the shoulder. The road is long and exposed, so plan the drive in daylight and carry what you need.
