A green valley on the Lidder, named after a Hindi film
Timings and fees change from time to time. Please confirm locally before you go.
Betaab Valley lies on the road from Pahalgam to Chandanwari. It was earlier called Hagan Valley and took its present name after the 1983 Hindi film Betaab was shot here. The valley floor is a fenced park of meadows and walkways, with the Lidder river running beside it and forested slopes and snow peaks above.
Inside the park you can walk along the paths, cross small wooden bridges over the stream and sit by the water. It is an easy, flat visit that suits families and older travellers. The views of the valley from the road above are also worth a stop.
Most people visit Betaab Valley in a union taxi from Pahalgam, together with Chandanwari and Aru Valley. In winter the valley is under snow and access may be limited. Spring brings fresh green grass and fuller streams, while autumn turns the slopes gold and the crowds thin out. Weekends in peak season can be busy, so a morning visit is calmer.
