About Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden lies on the slopes below the Zabarwan hills, overlooking Dal Lake, close to Chashme Shahi. It was earlier known as Siraj Bagh. The garden is planted on terraces with long beds of tulips in many colours, along with hyacinths, daffodils and other spring flowers.
It opens to visitors only for the flowering season, which usually runs from late March through April, depending on the weather. The Tulip Festival is held during this time. Outside these weeks the beds are bare, so it is only worth visiting in season. The bulbs are planted the autumn before, so the display each year depends on how the winter and spring weather turns out.
The garden draws large crowds, especially on weekends and in the first half of April when the tulips are at their peak. Plan a morning visit and combine it with Chashme Shahi, Nishat Bagh and Pari Mahal, which are all a short drive away.
